Gerret J. Swearingen

Mr. Swearingen graduated from Canterbury High School, received a B.A. degree in Literature from Depauw University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Valparaiso University School of Law

Mr. Swearingen is a member of the Elder Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association and has been admitted to practice before both State and Federal Courts.  He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and belongs to the Sigma Nu social Fraternity.

Mr. Swearingen has practiced law in Waynedale for nearly a decade.  His law practice centers around Estate and Long Term Care Planning, including Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney, Special Needs Trusts, and Advance Health Care Directives.  As an elder law practice, his office focuses on the legal needs of not only the elderly, but also those of younger clients who wish to plan their estates, as well as individuals with disabilities.

Mr. Swearingen helps clients form plans that assist them in preserving assets and remaining independent in the community for as long as this is possible.  However, in the event their health declines, it is sometimes not possible for the client to remain safely at home.  In these cases, Mr. Swearingen can also assist clients in preserving the family resources from the high costs of skilled nursing facility care.  Often, the goal of preserving resources can be achieved, while likewise insuring that the healthcare needs of the client are met.  This allows the client to achieve the best quality of life possible for both the client and his or her spouse and children.
